Champaign, IL (June 3, 2020)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Donna Amaral-Phillips as the 2020 recipient of the DeLaval Dairy Extension Award. Amaral-Phillips will be recognized during the virtual ADSA Annual Meeting.

The DeLaval Dairy Extension Award was created to recognize outstanding achievements in dairy extension. The winner must have made a valuable and noteworthy contribution to the dairy industry through dairy extension in the broad areas of production, manufacturing, marketing, and youth work; be active in dairy extension when nominated and have at least 10 years of dairy extension work with an educational or public institution; and have been a member of ADSA for at least 5 successive years.

Donna Amaral-Phillips is an extension professor and dairy extension specialist at University of Kentucky. Her extension education program centers on applying sound, science-based nutrition recommendations for replacements and lactating dairy cows, often using hands-on demonstrations and farmer-led discussion groups. She was the project leader for DAIReXNET, a national web-based resource, and co-coordinator for the North American Invitational 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl. Amaral-Phillips has authored or co-authored 52 peer-reviewed extension articles and 356 popular press articles. Some of her most fulfilling extension work in Kentucky has been done sitting around a kitchen table listening to a farmer’s concerns and did not involve dairy science concepts.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and DeLaval Inc. present Donna Amaral-Phillips with the 2020 DeLaval Dairy Extension Award.
