Champaign, IL (June 3, 2020)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce F. Xavier Malcata as the 2020 recipient of the International Dairy Foods Association Teaching Award in Dairy Manufacturing. Malcata will be recognized during the virtual ADSA Annual Meeting.
The International Dairy Foods Association Teaching Award in Dairy Manufacturing was created to recognize outstanding teaching of undergraduate students in dairy foods. The winner must have demonstrated outstanding ability as a teacher of undergraduate students of dairy foods in an accredited college or university and be an active teacher when nominated with not less than a total of 10 years of active teaching preceding. The winner must also be and have been a member of ADSA for at least 5 successive years.
F. Xavier Malcata received his BSc degree in chemical engineering from University of Porto (UP, Portugal) and his PhD in chemical engineering/food science from University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is currently full professor at the College of Engineering of UP. In addition to having been elected Fellow of ADSA, he received several previous awards, including the Foundation Scholar Award–Dairy Foods Division, the Danisco International Dairy Science Award, and the Distinguished Service Award from ADSA, as well as the William V. Cruess Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Institute of Food Technologists and the Elmer Marth Educator Award from the International Association for Food Protection.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the International Dairy Foods Association present F. Xavier Malcata with the 2020 International Dairy Foods Association Teaching Award in Dairy Manufacturing.
