Champaign, IL (June 3, 2020)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Jeffrey Firkins has been named Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association. Firkins will be recognized during the virtual ADSA Annual Meeting.
The purpose of the ADSA Fellow Award is to recognize dairy foods division and production division members of ADSA who have rendered distinguished service to the dairy industry over 20 years or more. The recipients must have made exceptional contributions to the dairy industry, to a dairy-related discipline, or to ADSA; in addition, the recipients must be and have been a member of ADSA for a minimum of 20 years.
Jeffrey Firkins earned his PhD at the University of Illinois and started at Ohio State University in 1987, being promoted to professor in 2000. He teaches and conducts research interfacing nutrition and rumen function and has published more than 140 refereed articles and book chapters, averaging more than 25 citations each, with 84 in the Journal of Dairy Science®. He has advised 25 graduate students and has served on and managed competitive grant panels and planning committees for numerous international conferences. He is a senior editor for the Journal of Dairy Science and committee member of NASEM’s Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA presents Jeffrey Firkins with the 2020 Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association distinction.
