Champaign, IL (May 19, 2021)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA) is pleased to announce Prateek Sharma as the 2021 recipient of the ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Foods. Sharma will be recognized during the virtual ADSA Annual Meeting.
The ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Foods was created to recognize a young scholar from the Dairy Foods division and their potential in research and educational leadership and to identify critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. Special requirements include 10 years or less since earning a final academic degree, current active membership in ADSA, exemplary research or educational programs (instruction, extension, or industry), and potential for future leadership. The winner must deliver a symposium-type address at the ADSA Annual Meeting that should focus on critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. A written manuscript of the lecture must be submitted to Journal of Dairy Science®, which will then be reviewed and published in an appropriate section of the journal.
Prateek Sharma is an assistant professor of dairy technology in the Department of Food Science at Utah State University with a research and teaching appointment. He earned a BS from the Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (Udaipur, India), an MS from the National Dairy Research Institute (Karnal, India), another EU MS from the Dublin Institute of Technology (Dublin, Ireland), and a PhD from Massey University (Palmerston North, New Zealand). His research focuses on understanding the role of material properties in controlling the structure and functionality of dairy foods. His teaching program encompasses dairy processing and technology of dairy foods manufacturing.
