Champaign, IL (June 1, 2023)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA) is pleased to announce Maneesha Mohan as the 2023 recipient of the ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Foods. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Foods was created to recognize a young scholar from the Dairy Foods division and their potential in research and educational leadership and to identify critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. Special requirements include 10 years or less since earning a final academic degree, current active membership in ADSA, exemplary research or educational programs (instruction, extension, or industry), and potential for future leadership. The winner must deliver a symposium-type address at the ADSA Annual Meeting that should focus on critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. A written manuscript of the lecture must be submitted to Journal of Dairy Science®, which will then be reviewed and published in an appropriate section of the journal.
Maneesha S. Mohan is an associate professor and the Endowed Alfred Chair in Dairy Manufacturing in the Dairy and Food Science Department at South Dakota State University. Her research interests include novel and sustainable food processes and technologies, product structure and rheology studies, and bioactive compound delivery. She obtained her MS from South Dakota State University and her PhD from the University of Tennessee. Mohan has held postdoctoral positions at The Pennsylvania State University and Teagasc, the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority. With her global experience in dairy processing and technology research, Mohan has established collaborations with research groups and dairy industries in the United States and around the world.
