Champaign, IL (June 1, 2023)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce J. Richard Pursley as the 2023 recipient of the DeLaval Dairy Extension Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The DeLaval Dairy Extension Award was created to recognize outstanding achievements in dairy extension. The winner must have made a valuable and noteworthy contribution to the dairy industry through dairy extension in the broad areas of production, manufacturing, marketing, and youth work; be active in dairy extension when nominated and have at least 10 years of dairy extension work with an educational or public institution; and have been a member of ADSA for at least five successive years.
J. Richard Pursley, PhD, received his BS and MS degrees from Kansas State University and his PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a professor of Animal Science in his 28th year at Michigan State University. Pursley’s current work focuses on understanding and developing strategies to eliminate pregnancy loss following conceptus attachment in lactating dairy cows. The mission of his extension appointment is to enhance the knowledge of dairy producers and veterinarians in Michigan, the United States, and the world in the reproductive management of dairy cows through innovative educational programming based on new knowledge gained through his strategic, practical research.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and DeLaval Inc. present J. Richard Pursley with the 2023 DeLaval Dairy Extension Award.
