Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Alycia Bales as the 2024 recipient of the ADSA Midwest Scholar Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The ADSA Midwest Scholars Award recognizes and features the research accomplishments of recent PhD graduates or current PhD students from the ADSA Midwest Branch in the advanced stages of their program (i.e., within 12 months of degree completion) at the ADSA Annual Meeting. The intent of the Young Scholars Program is to recognize the accomplishments of students in many disciplines through an invited presentation format; it is not intended as a competition.
Alycia Bales grew up in Michigan and recently completed her PhD at Michigan State University, where she made key contributions to the continued understanding of fatty acid nutrition and nutrient digestion, metabolism, and the production of high-producing dairy cows. She completed a series of dose-response studies with whole cottonseed and high oleic–acid soybeans and spearheaded additional studies to characterize the potential of high oleic–acid soybeans in dairy cow diets. These results have immediate on-farm applications and will aid future management and feeding decisions based on milk prices, feeding costs, and production responses.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the ADSA Midwest Branch present Alycia Bales with the 2024 ADSA Midwest Scholar Award.
