Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA) is pleased to announce Ángel Abuelo as the 2024 recipient of the ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Production. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Production was created to recognize a young scholar from the Production division and their potential in research and educational leadership and to identify critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. Special requirements include 10 years or less since receiving a final academic degree, current active membership in ADSA, exemplary research or educational programs (instruction, extension, or industry), and potential for future leadership. The winner must deliver a symposium-type address at the ADSA Annual Meeting that should focus on critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. A written manuscript of the lecture must be submitted to the Journal of Dairy Science®, which will then be reviewed and published in an appropriate section of the journal.

Ángel Abuelo is an associate professor at the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Veterinary Medicine. He obtained his veterinary and PhD degrees from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. His research focuses on strategies to enhance immunity during dairy cattle’s neonatal and periparturient periods. At MSU, he maintains federally funded research and extension programs, for which he secured more than $6 million as principal or coprincipal investigator since 2018. Abuelo has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and presented 35 invited national and international talks. He also contributes to veterinary student clinical training and provides continuing education to veterinarians.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the ADSA Foundation present Ángel Abuelo with the 2024 ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Production.
