Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Christine F. Baes as the 2024 recipient of the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding was created to recognize outstanding research in animal breeding. The winner must have done research work published in the 10 years immediately preceding the year of recognition, performed research in any area of animal breeding and genetics that had or has the potential for improvement of dairy cattle, and have been a member of ADSA for at least five years. The winner must also be a resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico and/or formally involved in projects in collaboration with North American researchers or organizations.

Christine F. Baes, PhD, is a full professor and chair of the Department of Animal Biosciences at the University of Guelph in Canada and tenured researcher at the University of Bern in Switzerland. Baes and her team focus on finding accurate and practical ways to collect information about specific traits in farm animals while uncovering how DNA contributes to traits like health, fertility, or methane production. Since joining the University of Guelph in 2015, she has secured more than $36 million in research funding, led transformative projects, and mentored numerous students and postdoctoral students. Her leadership extends globally, making her a standout candidate for the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding present Christine F. Baes with the 2024 J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding.
