Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Donna Amaral-Phillips as the 2024 recipient of the Hoard’s Dairyman Youth Development Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Hoard’s Dairyman Youth Development Award was created to recognize a candidate who has had significant involvement in dairy-related youth activities in either a professional or a volunteer capacity for a minimum of 10 years. The recipient shall be highly regarded in the dairy industry for his or her role in personal development of dairy youths and for enhancing knowledge of and interest in the dairy industry. The winner need not be a member of ADSA and may have worked with youths of any age, up to and including college, in many possible capacities, such as coach, counselor, teacher, adviser, mentor, chaperone, or supervisor.

Providing youths with opportunities to learn about the dairy industry and the science behind the implementation of management practices has been an important part of Donna Amaral-Phillips’s programs as an extension professor and dairy specialist at the University of Kentucky. She has been a coordinator of the national North American Invitational 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl for 35 years and has presented multiple hands-on sessions for Kentucky 4-H youth that illustrate nutritional and other management concepts. She has taught undergraduate and graduate students how to work and communicate effectively with dairy farmers and allied industry personnel and troubleshoot management and on-farm issues.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and Hoard’s Dairyman present Donna Amaral-Phillips with the 2024 Hoard’s Dairyman Youth Development Award.
