Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA) is pleased to announce Haotian Zheng as the 2024 recipient of the ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Foods. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Foods was created to recognize a young scholar from the Dairy Foods division and their potential in research and educational leadership and to identify critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. Special requirements include 10 years or less since earning a final academic degree, current active membership in ADSA, exemplary research or educational programs (instruction, extension, or industry), and potential for future leadership. The winner must deliver a symposium-type address at the ADSA Annual Meeting that should focus on critical issues affecting the future of the dairy industry. A written manuscript of the lecture must be submitted to Journal of Dairy Science®, which will then be reviewed and published in an appropriate section of the journal.

Haotian Zheng, PhD, is a tenure-track assistant professor in food chemistry at North Carolina State University (NC State), where he is also an affiliate of the Southeast Dairy Foods Research Center. Zheng’s research interests include, but are not limited to, mining functionalities from milk components. He teaches food ingredient functionality–related courses at NC State. In the summer of 2024, Zheng’s lab is hosting seven PhD students, one MS student, one undergraduate assistant, and one postdoctoral research associate. Some graduate students from his research program won or were shortlisted in graduate student research competitions from different professional organizations, including ADSA, the American Dairy Products Institute, and the Institute of Food Technologists.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the ADSA Foundation present Haotian Zheng with the 2024 ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in Dairy Foods.
