Joseph C. Dalton receives the DeLaval Dairy Extension Award

Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Joseph C. Dalton as the 2024 recipient of the DeLaval Dairy Extension Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The DeLaval Dairy Extension Award was created to recognize outstanding achievements in dairy extension. The winner must have made a valuable and noteworthy contribution to the dairy industry through dairy extension in the broad areas of production, manufacturing, marketing, and youth work; be active in dairy extension when nominated and have at least 10 years of dairy extension work with an educational or public institution; and have been a member of ADSA for at least five successive years.

Joseph C. Dalton earned his BS from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, his MS from Utah State University, and his PhD from Virginia Tech. Since 2000, he has served as an extension dairy specialist at the University of Idaho. Dalton’s research and extension program focuses on factors important to increasing dairy cattle fertility. He has given presentations and worked with veterinarians, technicians, students, and farmers throughout North and South America, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Dalton has taught artificial insemination in Idaho, the Philippines, Nepal, and St. Kitts. He and his wife, Nell Dalton, DVM, live in Caldwell, Idaho, with their children, Erin and Kieran.
