Luiz Ferraretto receives the Cargill Animal Nutrition Young Scientist Award

Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Luiz Ferraretto as the 2024 recipient of the Cargill Animal Nutrition Young Scientist Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Cargill Animal Nutrition Young Scientist Award was created to recognize outstanding research by young dairy production scientists during the first 10 years of their professional career. The winner must have demonstrated outstanding research in dairy cattle production areas within five years immediately prior to the year of the award, published original research work, and been a member of ADSA for at least five successive years. The winner must be 39 years old or younger and have completed their PhD no earlier than 10 years prior to the year of the award.

Luiz Ferraretto is an assistant professor and ruminant nutrition extension specialist at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He earned his BS (2008) from São Paulo State University and his MS (2011) and PhD (2015) degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Ferraretto was previously a postdoctoral researcher at the Miner Institute and an assistant professor at the University of Florida. His research and extension programs focus on understanding carbohydrate utilization by dairy cows, improving silage fermentation and nutritive value, optimizing the inclusion of forages and byproducts to dairy cattle diets, and developing and evaluating on-farm and laboratory methods for forage and feed analysis.
