Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce J. Richard Pursley as the 2024 recipient of the Zoetis Physiology Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Zoetis Physiology Award was created to recognize outstanding research in dairy cattle physiology. The winner must have research work in any area of animal physiology relating to the dairy animal published in refereed journals in the five years immediately preceding the year of recognition and have been a member of ADSA for at least the last five successive years.
J. Richard Pursley, PhD, obtained his BS and MS from Kansas State University and his PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he codeveloped Ovsynch. He is currently a professor of animal science in his 29th year at Michigan State University. His research focuses on improving fertility post-first artificial insemination and gaining a greater understanding of pregnancy losses in lactating dairy cows. His work not only aims to uncover the underlying causes of such losses but also to devise effective strategies for their prevention. Pursley’s commitment to advancing dairy cattle reproduction underscores his profound impact on the field of dairy science.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and Zoetis present J. Richard Pursley with the 2024 Zoetis Physiology Award.
