Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Robert Harmon as the 2024 recipient of the ADSA Award of Honor. The award will be presented on Sunday, June 16, 2024, during the opening session at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The ADSA Award of Honor was created to recognize unusually outstanding and consistent contributions to the welfare of the association or distinguished service to the association. The award is primarily for services to ADSA, with career achievements or contributions to other segments of the dairy industry receiving secondary consideration. The winner must have been a member of ADSA for 25 years or more, be living when nominated, and have served ADSA with unusual distinction.

Bob Harmon, PhD, an ADSA member for nearly 50 years, was on the faculty at the University of Kentucky from 1979 to 2016, where he maintained an active, productive research and outreach program focused on mastitis microbiology (Staphylococcus species in particular), pathophysiology, milk quality, and mastitis control for more than 20 years, resulting in 70 peer-reviewed publications, 11 books or book chapters, and over 110 invited presentations around the world. He authored one of the most-cited papers on factors affecting somatic cell counts in milk, which was published in JDS. Harmon was active in ADSA and National Mastitis Council committees, and served as a National Mastitis Council president. He was the recipient of the ADSA West Agro Award, Outstanding Advisor Award, Southern ADSA Honor Award, and was named an ADSA Fellow, in addition to several local awards. He served as department chair for 14 years with administrative and budgetary responsibilities for teaching, research, and extension programs before retiring in 2016.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA presents Robert Harmon with the 2024 ADSA Award of Honor.
