Thomas R. Overton receives the Nutrition Professionals Inc. Applied Dairy Nutrition Award

Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Thomas R. Overton as the 2024 recipient of the Nutrition Professionals Inc. Applied Dairy Nutrition Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Nutrition Professionals Inc. Applied Dairy Nutrition Award was created to stimulate and recognize outstanding achievement in research, teaching, extension, or industry in applied dairy nutrition. The winner must have made significant contributions to the dairy industry in the area of applied dairy nutrition in one or more areas, such as applied nutrition research related to improved production efficiency, reproductive function, or herd health; integration of innovative nutritional management practices into profitable management systems; or education (including technology transfer and extension) and application of nutritional information to students, producers, and the public. The winner must have made the contribution within 10 years prior to the year of the award and have been a member of ADSA for at least five consecutive years. They must also be a resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico.

Thomas R. Overton, PhD, is a professor of dairy management and chair of the Department of Animal Science at Cornell University. Overton is widely recognized for his research and extension efforts relating to the nutritional physiology and management of transition dairy cows. He has a BS from Cornell University and MS and PhD degrees from the University of Illinois. He has authored or coauthored nearly 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications and numerous conference proceedings, extension publications, and popular press articles. Overton was awarded the Cargill Animal Nutrition Young Scientist Award by ADSA in 2006 and the ADSA Foundation Scholar Award in 2007.
