Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Ursula Abou-Rjeileh as the 2024 recipient of the Alltech Inc. Graduate Student Paper Publication Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Alltech Inc. Graduate Student Paper Publication Award recognizes a graduate student, who is also a member of ADSA, who has published a paper in the Journal of Dairy Science® (JDS®). The manuscript must be based on research conducted by the student before his or her final oral examination and must list the student as senior author. The manuscript must be submitted to JDS within six months after completion of the final oral examination and then be accepted to and/or published in JDS during the calendar year preceding the award.
Ursula Abou-Rjeileh, a PhD candidate at Michigan State University, is originally from Beirut, Lebanon. After relocating to the US in 2015 for her studies, she engaged in undergraduate research with Adam Lock, PhD, and Andres Contreras, DVM, PhD. After graduating in 2020 with a BS in animal science and a minor in plant, animal, and microbial biotechnology, she joined Contreras’s lab full time for her PhD in comparative medicine and integrative biology. Her research focuses on oleic acid’s impact on adipose tissue metabolism and mitochondrial function in dairy cows. Abou-Rjeileh’s work embodies her passion for animal science and molecular biology, driven by a commitment to advancing dairy industry knowledge.
