Usman Arshad receives the National Milk Producers Federation: Richard M. Hoyt Award

Champaign, IL (June 7, 2024)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Usman Arshad as the 2024 recipient of the National Milk Producers Federation: Richard M. Hoyt Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The National Milk Producers Federation: Richard M. Hoyt Award was created to recognize research efforts with direct application to the problems of the US dairy industry. The winner must be enrolled in or have completed within the preceding year a program leading to an advanced degree in a department of dairy science, dairy production, dairy processing, or food science, or a department with a similar curriculum in an accredited college or university in the United States, and have accomplished research with direct application to problems of the US dairy industry. If the winner’s degree work is completed, they must be employed by a US company. The winner must also be a member of ADSA or the Student Affiliate Division of ADSA.

Usman Arshad is originally from Pakistan. He received his DVM in 2015 and MS in animal reproduction in 2017 from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Lahore, Pakistan. Arshad earned his PhD in animal molecular and cellular biology from the University of Florida in 2023, specializing in dairy cattle nutrition under the guidance of Jose Santos, PhD. Arshad’s PhD work set a pivotal baseline for dairy nutritionists and producers on the proper supplementation of choline to dairy cows. He aims to develop a research program involving dairy cattle nutrition, health, and reproduction.
