Champaign, IL, August 21, 2024 – The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Corwin Nelson, PhD, as the new ADSA Annual Meeting Science Director. Nelson, an accomplished researcher and educator with a deep understanding of dairy science, will be responsible for overseeing the scientific programming of an event that brings together more than 1,700 dairy professionals to exchange ideas, build relationships, and influence the future direction of dairy science.
As the Annual Meeting Science Director, Nelson will play a pivotal role in shaping the content and direction of the conference in the next three years, ensuring that it remains the premier event for dairy scientists, students, and industry professionals. He will work closely with the ADSA Board of Directors, staff, and Overall Program Committee to develop a robust scientific program that addresses the most pressing issues facing the dairy sector, from foods to production.
ADSA President Mike VandeHaar, PhD, added, “With this new position, the ADSA Board demonstrates its commitment to high-quality scientific programming at our Annual Meeting, and I am excited that Corwin will be the first person to fill it. He is an excellent and respected scientist, with experience as chair of our 2023 Annual Meeting Program Committee. I am confident that he will enhance the value of our Annual Meeting for our members and for the larger dairy science community.”
Nelson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. In his position as an associate professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida, he teaches courses on sustainable cattle systems, endocrinology, immunology, and vitamins. His specialties include vitamin nutrition and physiology, with a research focus on vitamin D and its impacts toward dairy cow health and productivity. He has a proven track record of academic achievement and professional service, including being awarded ADSA’s Cargill Animal Nutrition Young Scientist Award and earning the University of Florida Excellence in Graduate Research honor as Supervisory Committee Chair.
