Travelling to Ottawa as a US citizen from the US?
You MUST have a valid passport. Don't have one? Start the process today! Getting a passport can take up to 3 months, so you need to start now to join us in June! For visits to Canada of less than 180 days, U.S. citizens do not need visas.
Travelling to Ottawa while on a Visa in the US for education?
There are some steps you need to take to protect your F-1 status while you travel outside of the US.
- Get a travel signature from your advisor on your I-20
- Make Sure Your I-20 Reflects Your Current Situation
- Make Sure Your I-20 Will Not Expire While You Are Out of the Country
- Make sure your US Visa is valid through the date you will return to the US
If Canada is not your home country, you may need a visitor or transit visa. Canada also now requires Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for many citizens of visa-exempt countries who enter Canada.
Contact adsa@adsa.org to request an invitation letter with an IRCC code to facilitate your visa application.
Please locate the Canadian consular office nearest you to assist if needed.
